2008 FA Cup Players to Watch

Arsenal's Emmanuel Adebayor scores the third goal during their FA Cup fourth round reply football match against Bolton at the Reebok Stadium With more money pouring into the coffers of top English clubs every year, the FA Cup will only keep getting better. More money means top players, and top players mean FA Cup glory. Here are a few 2007/2008 FA Cup players to watch.

Anderson

Manchester United’s new signing promises to put the best of Brazilian football flair on display in this year’s FA Cup. The 19-year-old attacking midfielder has already achieved winner’s medals with Portuguese powerhouse FC Porto, and was the recipient of the Golden Ball at the FIFA U-17 World Cup. As strike partner of Cristiano Ronaldo, expect to see some fiery Latin football destroy United’s FA Cup opponents.

Steven Gerrard

Two times FIFA player of the year, Steven Gerrard adds value to the Liverpool side not only as a talented midfielder, but also as an inspirational captain. Liverpool has won both the Champions League and the FA Cup since Gerrard took the helm. With his cool head and ability as a striker, this FA Cup player could be the first Liverpool captain to hold the FA Cup aloft at the new Wembley Stadium.

Frank Lampard

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has scored more goals than any other player in the club’s current squad. Lampard took Chelsea to FA Cup glory in the 2006/2007 season, and also won the Premiership twice as a Chelsea player. Lampard’s scintillating start to the 2007/2008 Premiership season, with three goals in four matches, seems to indicate that this great player will be as unstoppable in this year’s FA Cup as he has been in the past.

Kasper Schmeichel

With a football pedigree that includes all-time great Peter Schmeichel as a father, it is unsurprising that Manchester City’s goalkeeper is showing signs of producing something special this season. After several seasons spent on loan to other clubs, Scmeichel has returned to his club with the intent to make people sit up and take notice. He’s made a good start of it, conceeding only one goal in the first four games of the league season.

Emmanuel Adebayor

Arsenal’s Togolese striker is a real threat to even the best organised defence. Averaging a goal a game in the early stages of the 2007/2008 Premiership, Adebayor looks like he may have what it takes to fill the gaping void created by the departure of Thierry Henry. If he can keep his hot temper under control, Adebayor promises to develop into one of the most memorable FA Cup players as he offers up some of the best displays of pacey forward football out there.
