Following a historic win against Manchester United in the 2008 FA Cup quarterfinals, premier league side Portsmouth have quietly gone about the business of preparing for their historic semi-final at Wembley this weekend.
While West Bromwich Albion and Cardiff City have been talking up a storm ahead of their games, and Barnsley have failed to give any indication of why they have reached the final stages of the 2008 FA Cup, Portsmouth have come in under the radar.
Portsmouth have won the FA Cup only once during their long history, claiming the last pre-war cup in 1939. After years spent in the lower leagues of English football, Portsmouth have strived to steady their ship and put together a top quality squad.
The arrival of experienced coach Harry Redknapp seems to have provided Portsmouth with the final ingredient for top level success. The club is now widely recognised as possessing one of the most talented teams outside of the top four of Premier League football, and based purely on the strength of their player pool are the best bet for claiming the 2008 FA Cup.
