Punters looking for 2008 FA Cup semi-final clues in the Football League tie between FA Cup 2008 semi-finalists Cardiff City and West Bromwich Albion were left none the wiser at the end of yesterday’s goalless draw at Ninian Park.
A game touted as a dress rehearsal for both 2008 FA Cup semi-finalists failed to live up to its billing as both teams appeared to suffer from nerves and a lack of focus.
The game was not without its moments, as both sides created opportunities on goal, however it was clinical finishing that was conspicuous in its absence, and both sides will need to perform better in their respective ties this weekend to have any chance of progressing into the FA Cup 2008 finals.
However, it must be said that Cardiff City appeared to have the better of the Baggies in this tie. The Welsh side threatened West Bromwich Albion on several occasions, and their speed and purpose on attack often made their opponents appear sluggish and disorganised.
The game produced a moment of controversy when West Bromwich Albion’s Joe Ledley thundered a shot at goal, only to see it deflected by the hand of Cardiff player Zoltan Gera. The referee ignored this blatant foul, saving Cardiff from defeat by a penalty.
