Cardiff City and West Bromwich Albion will participate in an inverted FA Cup 2008 semi-final rehearsal tonight as the teams match up in a late season Football League tie. Although the two FA Cup 2008 semi-finalists will both be facing different opponents on the weekend, the match will provide both clubs with a valuable opportunity to acclimatise to the heady heights of the last stages of the FA Cup 2008.
West Bromwich Albion club manager Tony Mowbray has already indicated that he expects full intensity and focus from his side, saying “I would expect every player tonight to step up and give a performance.”
It is, of course, West Bromwich Albion that stand to win or lose the most by the end of tonight’s fixture. While Cardiff City drift in the middle of the Football League table and will be pursuing a win as a statement of intent for their weekend game, a win for West Bromwich Albion would be a massive boost to their chances for Premier League promotion.
Cardiff City are one of the few clubs in the Football League to have had West Bormwich Albion’s measure this season. The bluebirds knocked the baggies out of the Carling Cup in September and drew their away game at the end of 2007 after leading for much of the game.
